WATERBURY - The Home-to-Home Foundation sponsored
holiday events at 12 nursing homes in the Greater
Waterbury area this month.
On December 12th, the festivities were held at
Haven Health in Waterbury. Elaine Schieffer and her
elf Maureen performed a karaoke sing-a-long with
residents. Home-to-Home Foundation volunteers
decorated the holiday tree, part of the foundation's
"Celebration Tree Program" where a tree is
decorated for every major holiday throughout the year
for residents to enjoy.
Maria Beccia, a resident of Haven Health, was among
those who took part. Ms. Beccia, who will celebrate
her 105th birthday in January, came alive with holiday
cheer during the event, playing the tambourine,
tapping her feet and singing. Ms. Beccia does not
speak English but this didn't stop her from
interacting in her native Italian with a perpetual
smile on her face. And, as icing on the holiday cake,
Ms. Schieffer performed several songs in Italian just
for Ms. Beccia.
More than 350 nursing home residents throughout
Greater Waterbury were treated to holiday
performances, decorations, cards and gifts through the
Home-to-Home Foundation. For more information, call
